He hadn’t planned to stop.

It was just a quiet stretch of road, the kind you end up on without thinking too much about how you got there. The cemetery stood off to the side, old but unremarkable at first glance, and for a moment, it felt like nothing more than a place to pass through.

Until he turned around.

There wasn’t anything obvious that pulled him in, no clear reason to get out of the car and walk through it. But once he did, the stillness felt different. Not empty, just present in a way that was hard to explain.

Even then, it was easy to dismiss. Right up until he left. Because whatever he had felt there didn’t stay behind when he drove away.

And by the time he realized that…it was already with him.
