In this episode of Good Deeds, host Nanette Wiser welcomes Quenita Oats, the new CEO of Community Tampa Bay, an anti-discrimination nonprofit. She has dedicated over a decade of experience working in youth development and education. With a new Adult ANYTOWN® program, the fall return of Community Conversations, the and registration now open for summer 2026 June ANYTOWN® camp for youth 14-18 at Eckerd College. There is also an Advocacy Academy that continues the time at ANYTOWN®, which is the the beginning of the program's leadership and advocacy journey! "All of our Advocacy Academy members began as ANYTOWNers," says Oats. The mission of the organization is to build a community free from discrimination. "We empower inclusive leaders to change their communities by providing cultural education and facilitating difficult conversations. We believe that cross-cultural interaction and dialogue are the necessary tools we need to break down discrimination in all its forms."
MILESTONE EVENT Transformations 2026 will be especially meaningful as Community Tampa Bay celebrates 35 years of service through our flagship ANYTOWN® program! Transformations 2026: Thursday, May 7th 11am-1:30pm. Transformations is Community Tampa Bay’s premier annual event to celebrate, connect, and experience community commitment to anti-discrimination work. Transformations honors leaders in inclusion, justice, and advocacy with the Silver Medallion Award, which Community Tampa Bay has been awarding since 1970. Attendees will hear from youth and adult program participants, volunteers, donors, and partners who have given their time, talents, and treasure to Community Tampa Bay and can speak to the transformative power of our work. Quenita Oats Formerly, as Executive Director of Girls on the Run Greater Tampa Bay, Quenita helped young girls to find voice and realize their limitless potential through goal-setting and physical activity. Prior to that, Quenita worked within the juvenile justice system. Through her time with Leon County Teen Court and Paxen Community Connections respectively, Quenita strived to help change the trajectory of youth who had run-ins with the law to complete their court-ordered sanctions and reset their path to completing their education.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rust College and a Master of Applied Social Science in History from Florida A&M University. Quenita is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and is deeply committed to creating the change that she wants to see. Beyond her professional achievements, Quenita is also a proud daughter, sister, and mother.
