The Fate Of The Morgan

The USS Morgan was a Gleaves-class destroyer that went missing and was presumed lost in 1943. Given the war and its duties patrolling the Atlantic hunting U-boats and Italian submarines this wasn't seen as a great surprise and was chalked up to enemy action. No one claimed responsibility for sinking it, but again that’s not unheard of. For most people, even historians and aficionados, the USS Morgan is barely a footnote. But not for my family. For my family it was a great weight wrapped around us, dragging us down.
