He had the house to himself while his brother's family was on the way to the airport. After a forgotten passport sent his brother briefly back home, everything should have been quiet again.

Instead, he was awakened by heavy footsteps moving across the floor above him.

At first, the sounds made perfect sense. His brother must have come back for one last forgotten item. But then he remembered something that instantly turned a normal explanation into something impossible.

The doors were still locked from the inside. Moments later, the footsteps started down toward the basement... and whatever made them wasn't finished with him yet.
