A Skeptic, a Haunted House, and a Story That Can't Be Easily Explained!

A lifelong skeptic shares chilling paranormal encounters in his haunted farmhouse, including disembodied voices, ghostly mimics, unexplained footsteps, and questions about consciousness after death.

Some of the most compelling paranormal stories come from people who never expected to tell them.

This episode's guest, Doyle, is someone I am incredibly lucky to call a friend. Born in England, raised in Ireland, and eventually making his way to the United States, Doyle has lived a fascinating and varied life. He's been a summer camp director, educator, podcast producer, chorus singer, and parent. He's also a lifelong science fiction fan—which, naturally, makes us instant besties.

Living in a Haunted Farmhouse

Doyle's paranormal experiences took on a much darker tone after he began living alone in an old farmhouse.

The house dates back to the 1950s and, according to Doyle, has been the site of three confirmed deaths. One person reportedly died in the very bedroom where he now sleeps.

After his divorce, Doyle suddenly found himself living alone in the house.

That's when he began noticing things.

The Chilling Phenomenon of Ghostly Mimicking

One of the most unsettling paranormal experiences Doyle described involved what paranormal researchers and experiencers sometimes call mimicking.

On more than one occasion, Doyle heard one of his sons calling for him.

He would go looking for the source of the voice—only to discover that his son insisted he had never called.

Is a Mimic a Darker Kind of Paranormal Activity?

Doyle described mimicking as the aspect of his experiences that felt potentially darker.

A voice calling from an empty room can be unsettling on its own. But hearing the voice of someone you know—particularly when you later discover they never spoke—adds another layer of discomfort.

Why would something mimic a living person's voice?

Does Consciousness Continue After Death?

Doyle is open to the possibility that consciousness might continue after physical death.

He referenced ideas connected with quantum physics and theories exploring whether some aspect of existence could persist in a state we cannot currently comprehend.

These ideas are highly speculative, and they should not be confused with established scientific proof of an afterlife.

But the question remains one of humanity's oldest and most persistent:

What happens to consciousness when the body dies?

The Power of a Shared Paranormal Experience

Perhaps the most compelling part of Doyle's story isn't a photograph or an investigation.

It's the moment when two people heard the same impossible voice.

When strange experiences happen alone, we often question our senses. We wonder whether exhaustion, expectation, memory, or perception could have played a role.

But shared experiences are different.

They don't automatically prove a supernatural explanation. Two people can still misunderstand or misidentify the same event.

Yet they complicate the easy dismissal that someone simply imagined something.

For Doyle, his son's confirmation mattered.

His son heard it too.

And that left them both with a mystery.
