Was Lindsay Clancy Ever Screened For The Right Thing?

Screening tools exist because the human eye misses things. There is a ten-question screen built specifically for postpartum mood disorders. Lindsay Clancy took it in November 2022 with a nurse practitioner and scored 23 out of 30. Testimony established McLean Hospital never gave it to her.

The three first-degree murder counts against Clancy all carry not guilty pleas. Cora, Dawson, and Callan died on January 24, 2023. She admits causing their deaths. The not criminally responsible claim rests on postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder. The Commonwealth says she acted rationally and knew what she was doing.

This is the full conversation with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, running all three parts.

Part one explains the illness. A 2017 review in BMC Psychiatry puts postpartum psychosis at roughly one or two births in a thousand, and it usually arrives within days or weeks of delivery. Callan was eight months old.

Part two examines the clinicians. Dr. Jennifer Tufts treated Clancy across fourteen video sessions without ever meeting her, and testified she relied on Clancy to volunteer whatever mattered. Dr. Alia Goodheart testified her caseload had never included one.

Part three covers bipolar disorder, raised by a nurse practitioner in 2022 and written on the McLean discharge as severe depression with no psychotic features noted.

Nightbird is her published memoir. Both doctors dispute the malpractice claims.

The McLean admission began January 1, 2023 and ended with a discharge four days later. She has been in a wheelchair throughout the proceedings. Shavaun covers what changes in treatment once bipolar disorder is on the chart, and why a mood stabilizer alters the entire prescribing calculus.
