Lindsay Clancy Trial: Doctor Says Her Injuries Weren't Staged — They Were Real

An ER physician testified today that Lindsay Clancy's own body told the story prosecutors have spent months disputing. Dr. Michael Vulfovich, called as an expert witness for the defense, reviewed her medical records and told jurors her injuries were consistent with a genuine suicide attempt. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is on trial for the murders of her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — who prosecutors allege she strangled with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation and has pleaded not guilty. Her defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, rests on an insanity claim built around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Vulfovich didn't stop at the fall itself. He told jurors that later in her treatment, Clancy coded and had to receive a blood transfusion just to survive — a detail that underscores how close the case came to having one fewer person in the courtroom to stand trial at all.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to last several weeks.
