Lindsay Clancy's Prosecutor Built the Case on Three Words

Prosecutors in the Lindsay Clancy trial called a psychiatrist to prove she was responsible for killing her three children. He built that opinion on something she told him: that she said "go to God" as she tightened an exercise band around each of their necks.

Dr. Avram Mack evaluated Clancy for the Plymouth County District Attorney in April 2026. He diagnosed major depression, found no evidence of psychosis or bipolar disorder before the killings, and said the killings were methodical and aimed at a goal. He also said Clancy told him she doubts the bipolar diagnosis she's being treated for at Tewksbury State Hospital.

The defense's final witness, Dr. Phillip Resnick, read the same words as delusion. He testified Clancy was obsessive about caring for her kids and believed, through psychotic thinking, that taking them to heaven with her was morally right. Resnick examined her in May 2023 and has worked roughly eighty cases involving parents accused of killing children.

He also argues that Mack's statement that psychosis doesn't automatically erase knowledge of right from wrong weakens the prosecution's month-long focus on whether Clancy was psychotic. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three first-degree murder counts. Prosecutors allege premeditation. Mack's cross continues, with two more state experts expected before closing arguments.
