Biggie's Case — What the LAPD Did to the Investigation

Every time a detective got close to solving the murder of Christopher Wallace, the LAPD pulled the plug. The first investigator followed the evidence to two of the department's own officers. His chief ordered him to stop. He quit the force in 1999 and never saw an arrest before he died in 2015.
A second task force, created in 2006 under federal pressure, got even further. Its detectives extracted a confession naming who allegedly pulled the trigger and who allegedly ordered the hit. The FBI wired its cooperating witness and sent her to confront the suspect in prison. He gave them nothing. The task force was disbanded after the Wallace family dropped their $400 million lawsuit against the city.
Along the way, that same task force produced the confession that eventually put Keffe D in a Las Vegas courtroom for Tupac Shakur's murder. Davis was convicted of first-degree murder on August 31, 2026. The investigation that solved Tupac's murder was built to solve Biggie's. It solved one and was shut down before it could finish the other. This episode maps how a solvable case became the longest-running failure in LAPD history.
