The Next Chapter in Vancouver: Alex Edler on Retirement and Returning to the Canucks

John Shannon is joined by longtime Vancouver Canuck Alex Edler on 100% Canucks to discuss his return to the organization and the beginning of a new chapter in player development.

After a 17-year NHL career, Edler reflects on adjusting to retirement and why he doesn't necessarily miss the daily grind of playing, even if the camaraderie, competition, and feeling of being part of the biggest games are harder to replace.

Now back in Vancouver as Director of Player Development, Edler explains why joining the Canucks' new management group was an easy decision and what he hopes to bring to the organization's young players. He looks back on his own experience arriving in Canada as a young Swedish prospect and the importance of having veterans like Mattias Öhlund and Daniel and Henrik Sedin there to help him adjust.

Edler also discusses how much the NHL has changed since he entered the league, the increased speed of today's game, and what young players need to do to continue adapting. He reflects on finishing his playing career in Los Angeles and why the change proved valuable for both him and his family.
