Jesse Calhoun — She Told Police His Name and They Did NOTHING

A twenty-two-year-old woman allegedly reported Jesse Calhoun to Portland police after he choked her. According to her father, she had marks on her throat. A report was filed. The case was transferred to another jurisdiction and nothing happened. She disappeared four months later and was found dead in a pond southeast of Portland.

Her name was Ashley Real, and she is one of six women Jesse Lee Calhoun is now accused of killing in the Portland metro area between November 2022 and April 2023. Calhoun, a career criminal with two decades of convictions, had been released from prison roughly a year early after Governor Kate Brown commuted his sentence for fighting wildfires. He was forty-one inmates granted early release through that program.

The bodies were found across a hundred miles of the Pacific Northwest — in wooded areas, fields, an abandoned barn in Washington, a pond in Clackamas County. Prosecutors allege the first victim, thirty-two-year-old Elizabeth Gibson, was killed in November 2022. Her body has never been recovered. Despite multiple discoveries, the Portland Police Bureau publicly stated the cases were not connected. Calhoun was arrested in June 2023 on a parole violation after jumping into the Willamette River. Grand jury indictments started in 2024 and are still coming. The sixth charge — for Gibson — landed September 16, 2026. Calhoun has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
