Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 3: Ashley’s Dad Asked Google WHAT?

Todd Smith testified that his daughter Ashley Flynn never spoke badly about Caleb Flynn. After Ashley was killed, though, her father said he found himself searching a question he apparently never imagined asking.

Todd told jurors Caleb made $195,000 working for the family company in 2025, plus a $10,000 tax-free medical reimbursement. Todd intended to retire and leave the company equally to Ashley and Kayla, and he testified that Caleb’s income could increase with higher sales. The Smiths also provided additional money to the Flynns through their “GGFM fund,” created for family trips and experiences.

Todd said that after Ashley’s death, he thought the circumstances did not look good for Caleb. He testified that he searched, “Can a Christian man snap and kill his wife?” His wife told him not to entertain the possibility.

Captain Tony Smith’s testimony shifted from the family to the investigation. The Tipp City Police captain said he asked the FBI to assist early and found financial documents that led investigators to Caleb and Ashley’s accounts. Subpoenas went to Allied Bank and Citibank.

He also testified about DNA collected from one of the Flynn children, a laptop Todd turned over from the Flynn home, and numerous tipline reports forwarded to the FBI. Smith said none of those tips panned out and acknowledged that he personally did not investigate them.

On cross-examination, Captain Smith said police collected items from Alleigha Botner’s church office. He testified that he was informed Botner’s laptop and cell phone had been lost during a trip in January 2026.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to all charges in Ashley Flynn’s death.
