Why Nick Reiner's Trustee Says He Never Owned the $558K

The Nick Reiner trust dispute now turns on a conversation with his mother. Successor trustee Jodi Pais Montgomery argues the $558,000 due on Nick's 30th birthday never left the trust because he consented to leaving it there, a claim she traces to something Michele Singer Reiner reportedly told a prior trustee. Under that reading he is owed nothing until he turns 35 in 2028. Nick's August declaration says no trustee ever told him the money was his or asked his permission to hold it.

Why it matters: Montgomery says California's slayer statute could redirect the money to Jake and Romy after a conviction, so a payout now can't be clawed back. Nick's attorneys counter that money vested two years before the deaths was never inheritance, that a chunk came from his grandfather, and that a trustee already paid Alan Jackson's firm in April. His lawyers also say the trustees have spent over $250,000 of the trust fighting him.
