What Caleb Flynn's Daughter Said About the Other Woman

Matthew Keyt drove Caleb Flynn to the police station twice in the days after Ashley died, and on the ride home from the second interview Caleb told him he was afraid police would take both of the girls' parents away. Matt promised him that wouldn't happen. On the third day of the Caleb Flynn trial, Matt, his wife Kayla, and Ashley's parents took the stand, and Kayla described the day they told those girls who the other woman was.

Kayla Keyt testified she saw Caleb every other day, called him her brother, and told police they had the wrong man. She said she learned about the affair from the FBI and had never suspected it. She kept the books for the family flooring business and said Caleb's income topped $200,000. The company was to be gifted to her and Ashley equally, and Caleb asked in September to see her growth projections a second time.

Jill Smith described the 3 a.m. call, the story Caleb gave her about a cough and the couch and a gunshot, and the walk he took his daughters on days later. She said both girls came back nervous and the older one told her so. Todd Smith said his doubts began on the drive home from Quebec, over the dogs.

Captain Tony Smith showed the jury an insurance policy naming Caleb as Ashley's sole beneficiary, more than $84,000 in joint savings, and a monthly Snoopreport charge on Caleb's card. He also testified the other woman lost her church laptop and had her phone water-damaged in January. BCI found no foreign DNA. The defense established no gunshot residue test was ever done.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and related charges. Tony walks through what this family built for him, the account he gave each of them, and the 12-year-old's answer that ended the day.
