Bryan Kohberger's Own Lawyers Said He Couldn't Do THIS

Bryan Kohberger's guilty plea in the Idaho student murders looked final in July 2025. A memo unsealed on September 22, 2026 has his new lawyer arguing otherwise. The sealed May 20, 2025 filing from his original team, led by Anne Taylor, told Judge Steven Hippler that Kohberger was having trouble processing the rulings going against him and weighing his options, including whether to take a deal. The same lawyers stated that they were not claiming he was incompetent. Hippler denied their request for more time on June 26, 2025. Kohberger pleaded guilty on July 2. Greg Rauch now calls that six-day gap a central issue, and a hearing on his motion to remove Hippler is set for October 15, 2026. Prosecutors are leaning on the plea transcript, where Kohberger said he understood.
