Why Caleb Flynn Never Actually Filed for Divorce

Caleb Flynn promised his mistress a divorce for a year and never filed. The reason is in the Caleb Flynn trial texts, and it's smaller and uglier than money or custody. Tony walks through the messages that show how he kept two women in place at once.

The dates kept moving. "Only one more month" in September. "Sometime before Thanksgiving" in October. On October 17 his girlfriend asked why he was shaking when he walked in and why he wouldn't leave his wife the next week. Three days later she asked why he'd looked her in the eye, said he was leaving, and said "Watch me."

Tony's read is that the divorce was never the plan, and the leash was. Caleb Flynn couldn't leave Ashley, so he needed to make sure Alleigha Botner never left him. He did it by making her the problem: her church run club, the men she hugged there, the man who ran it. He gave that man the same nickname he'd given his wife, and put one small favor on the same scale as a woman he said he wanted dead. When she refused, the divorce was off, and he blamed her for it.

Around that sits the rest of the pattern the jury heard from thirty-four binders. The nickname in place of Ashley's name. "I hate her" as the answer to every argument. The apologies that carried death wishes inside them, and the "I'm sorry you're in your head so much" texts. A forty-day fast to get out of the marriage that he swore on his daughters' lives to keep secret.

The charge is aggravated murder. Prosecutors say Caleb Flynn shot his sleeping wife on February 16, 2026 and dressed the scene as a burglary, and the defense answers that an intruder did it and the messages were a cheating husband's lies. He has pleaded not guilty. Tony ends with the one sentence Caleb wrote that answers his own lawyers.
