Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 6: What Did He Tell Detective Mike Morgan?

Caleb Flynn sat for two voluntary interviews with Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan, and prosecutors played both for the jury investigating the death of Ashley Flynn. One exchange ended with Caleb telling the detective, “It feels like you're pointing at me.”

Morgan testified that he responded to the Flynn home, conducted another walk-through and observed Ashley deceased. In the garage, Morgan said he noticed damage around the side door but did not believe it was consistent with forced entry. He contacted Ohio BCI to assist with the investigation. Other trial testimony has likewise focused on investigators’ conclusion that the garage-door damage did not match the home-invasion account.

During the first interview, Flynn gave Morgan his timeline. He said Ashley put their daughters to bed around 8:30 p.m.; the couple went to bed around 11; and Ashley later asked him to sleep on the couch because he was coughing. Flynn said he woke after hearing the dog, went into the girls’ room, lay on a bunk and then heard two shots. He said he ran into the garage, found the side door wide open and closed it before going to Ashley and calling 911.

Flynn also told Morgan about a “weird salesman” who had allegedly come to the family home and another encounter involving a strange man who allegedly told Ashley, “I know where you live.” Morgan asked Flynn to list the guns and ammunition in the home.

In the second interview, Morgan asked about the marriage and told Flynn investigators would check Ashley’s messages for possible conflicts. Flynn said they had a “normal marriage” and that neither phone would show marital trouble. Caleb has pleaded not guilty; his defense maintains investigators rushed to blame him.
