Why Caleb Flynn’s Lawyers Called ZERO Witnesses at His Murder Trial

The prosecution called forty witnesses and put 107,000 text messages in front of the jury. Caleb Flynn’s defense called zero.

The messages between Caleb and his mistress Alleigha Botner were organized by the state’s digital analyst into categories. “Kill Ashley, Ashley Dead/Gone, Rid of Ashley.” “About Hating Ashley” — ninety-five texts over ten months. The language escalated across a full year: “I hate her ever living guts” became “I despise her,” which became “the witch.” On February 10, 2025, Caleb texted Botner: “I need her to die.”

The prosecution says Caleb couldn’t afford to leave. He texted Botner what divorce would cost — his daughters full time, a quarter-million-dollar salary, his house, and his standing at the church where both of them worked. He promised to leave Ashley in September, October, and February. He never did. By February 2026, Botner had planned a date with someone else.

On September 2, 2025, Botner researched permanent deletion of their messages across WhatsApp, Instagram, iCloud, and GroupMe. Caleb had already been coaching her on scrubbing their trail since August. Her conclusion: “Not even lawyers with a subpoena.” The prosecution recovered all of it.

The night of February 15, Caleb texted: “Actions will come tomorrow.” By 12:42 AM: “It’s happening, Alleigha.” At 12:45 AM: “I choose you, Alleigha. Goodnight.” Ashley was dead by morning. When Botner heard, she texted Caleb: “Were you behind this?” Three GroupMe messages that followed were deleted.

Closing arguments begin Tuesday. One sentence from the defense against 107,000 texts from the prosecution.
