In Perdition Ridge, the fog hides more than the horizon. A young boy lives among ramshackle shelters and hard-drinking shipyard workers, waiting for his father to explain why they cannot go home—and why his mother never came with them. His days belong to the fishing traps along the jetties. His nights are spent keeping quiet and hoping his father’s anger passes him by. Then a vessel emerges from the mist, carrying something no working ship should hold. The men ashore know more than they will say, and the stranger who promised his father a better life seems to have claims that reach far beyond a day’s labor.
