Writer and journalist Ulick O'Connor shares his memories of the last London Olympic games back in 1948

There are just hours to go until the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. After 70 days and 8000 torch bearers the olympic flame will arrive at the brand spanking new Olympic stadium tonight to start the Games proper.... The last time that happened was in 1948. The war had not long ended and many were surprised the games were going ahead.
