The Food and Agriculture Organization – FAO is scaling up efforts to support people in need of food in Northern Bahl Ghazal region. This comes amid concerns that the food insecurity in this part of the country is deteriorating.

The latest bulletin from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian affairs in South Sudan states that as many as six in every ten people in Northern Bahl Ghazal, are projected to be food insecure by the end of July.

Mr. Abdoul Kharim, Deputy FAO Representative, and Emergency Response Manager, told Miraya Breakfast show that the situation in Northern Bahl Ghazal state has been aggravated by poor roads, empty markets and incredibly high prices.

Kharim said FAO will continue distributing vegetables and fishing kits because the season is right for this and the agency also plans to continue supporting the farmers with seeds and tools for the main cropping season.
