Address to the Nation – President Salva Kiir asks for forgiveness, sells optimism for Peace
[…] "I am asking you the people of #SouthSudan to forgive me for any mistakes i have committed" - President Salva Kiir.
Reflecting on the events and incidents that have rocked South Sudan this year, President Salva Kiir on Wednesday urged the citizens to reject the politics of hatred and unite in support of the national dialogue, which he described as “a hallmark of South Sudan’s liberation struggles.”
Delivering his end of the Year address to the nation, President Kiir, said he strongly believes that the current situation in the country calls for a national dialogue, unity and an end to the cycle of violence and atrocities.
He said that a National dialogue would provide the people of South Sudan an opportunity to redefine the basis of their unity as it relates to nationhood, citizenship and a sense of belonging.
President Kiir also cautioned against hate speech and warned that the government will take tough action against anyone who is found broadcasting information aimed to incite ethnic hatred. President Kiir also urged the security forces to cease all hostilities and support the broad-based national dialogue.
