The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has called on the country’s leaders and the armed opposition to demonstrate the true spirit of peace.
Speaking to Radio Miraya Ambassador Mahboub Maalim said no amount of continued fighting and violence could end the political crisis in the country.
Ambassador Mahboub says the hard fought war for independence should bear meaning for peace.
IGAD also welcomed the graduation of the first batch of the Joint Integrated Police Unit. Ambassador Mahboub said their deployment, as part of transitional security arrangements in the peace deal, should be done alongside a sincere national dialogue process to help reconcile the country.
