October is breast cancer awareness month, an annual global campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer risks, and the value of screening and early detection.

Worldwide more than 500,000 women die every year from breast cancer.

In South Sudan, Dr. Mawien Akot, an oncologist and consultant physician in Juba says there are no available records on the statistics in the country.

Dr Akot says South Sudan suffers an unfortunate challenge of lacking the equipment needed to diagnose and treat the disease.
