Pneumonia accounts for 19% of child deaths in South Sudan

Pneumonia contributes to 19% of child deaths in South Sudan, according to the malaria consortium an international NGO involved in control of malaria and other communicable diseases.

The daunting revelation comes as the world prepares to celebrate pneumonia day on Sunday under the theme “Stop Pneumonia: Invest in Child Health.”

Denis Mubiru, the malaria consortium Country Director in South Sudan, clears misconceptions that pneumonia is caused by cold weather and says South Sudan carries a heavy burden of child deaths caused by pneumonia.
