A medical expert is appealing for more government support towards controlling diabetes.

Dr. Alex Santino, the medical director of Diabetes Control at Malakia Primary Health Care Centre, says the facility receives at least five new patients a week, making a total of not less than seventy patients every year.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood.

In this interview with Radio Miraya Reporter Henry Lokuri, Dr Santino, says treatment and management is costly and patients need government support.
