Abraham Awolich, South Sudan Senior Policy Analyst discusses impact of US sanctions against South Sudan

The US Government on Friday announced a restriction on arms transfers to South Sudan where tens of thousands have died in civil war.

US State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, said in a statement that  the United States is enacting restrictions on arms transfers with South Sudan In response to this continued violence and brutality against civilians and humanitarian workers.  

The State Department will amend regulations and apply a policy of denial, with limited exceptions, on the export of defense articles and defense services to South Sudan, including all parties involved in the conflict. 

So can such restrictions have any impact? Joining us in the studio to discuss the likely impact is Mr Abraham Awolich, Co-founder of the Sudd Institute Think tank, where he serves as Researcher and a Senior Policy Analyst.
