UNMISS facilitates release of 300 child soldiers in Yambio

Nearly three hundred former child soldiers in Yambio will be released back into the community tomorrow. 

The children aged between 10 and 16 years, including girls, previously fought for the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) and the South Sudan National Liberation Movement (SSNLM). 

Their demobilization is being supported by UN children’s agency - UNICEF and the UN Mission in South Sudan in collaboration with the national government. 

Alfred Orono Orono, Chief of the Child Protection section in the UN Mission spoke with Miraya Breakfast show hosts Irene Lasu and Sebit William and explained the role of UNMISS in the demobilization and reintegration process.
