UNICEF: South Sudan ranks 7th riskiest country for a baby to be born

South Sudan is one of the most dangerous country for a baby to be born in. This according to a new report released on Tuesday by the United Nations Children's Fund – UNICEF.

According to the Report, one in every 27 babies dies in South Sudan. While South Sudan ranks 7th on the list of 10 riskiest countries for new born babies, topping the list is Pakistan followed by Central African Republic, Afghanistan and Somalia.  

The report states that deaths of newborn babies remain alarmingly high, particularly among the world’s poorest countries. 

Kemish Alier,  a health officer at the UN’s children’s agency - UNICEF in south Sudan explains the problems leading to newborn deaths and what interventions are needed to control these deaths in South Sudan.
