On United Nations Day, UNICEF calls for release of all children in armed ranks

Highlighting the plight of thousands of children in South Sudan, the United Nations Children’s agency – UNICEF is calling for the release of all children still in armed ranks.
The agency’s chief of communications in South Sudan, Tim Irwin, said estimates show there are more than 19 – thousand children serving in armed ranks.
Stressing the need for safety of children and young people, Tim acknowledged the progress made this year by armed groups to release children from their ranks, but said a lot more needs to be done.
