Peace Celebration: ‘Civil War is the Worst thing that can happen to a country’ – Speech by President of Somalia

The President of Somalia made a candid appeal to the President Salva Kiir and the Opposition lead-er Dr. Riek Machar to work together to stir the country on the path for peace.

President Mohammed Abdulla Mohammed was one of the regional leaders that turned up for the National Peace celebrations in Juba this week.

Referring to the Somali civil war, President Mohammed pointed out the dangers of conflict to the country and said ; “The death and destruction, the displacement, the refugees the breakdown of government and institutions, civil war is the worst thing that can happen to a country and more so to a country as young and as hopeful as South Sudan.”

“Remember that no arrangement is without flaws, no negotiations is perfectly balanced, that’s why the real test of leaders is to have the nobility to make concessions and put this country and its people first,” he added.
