The UN Special-Representative and Head of the UN Mission in South Sudan, David Shearer has launched a new report showcasing a series of special projects funded by UNMISS, to improve the lives of communities across the country.
The report titled ‘The People’s Project’ was put together by the Mission’s Relief, Reintegration and Protection Section and features the stories of all those who have benefited from $7.5 million US that has been spent since 2011 on Quick Impact Projects.
Addressing journalists in Juba, Mr. Shearer said the small-scale and low-budget projects cost less than $50,000 US dollars each.
Speaking on the recent brutal attacks and sexual abuse of more than 150 women and girls near Bentiu, the Special-Representative said the Mission’s human rights team is on ground gathering victim and witness testimony, to help identify those responsible.
