Construction work at the Freedom Bridge is expected to start in May, nearly three years since the project came to a standstill due to conflict.

The Resident Project Engineer, Norio Umeda told Radio Miraya in an exclusive interview that sixy civil engineers are on ground doing surveys and assessments of the scope of work required.

Umeda says construction is expected to take 27 months ahead of the official handover in 2021.

The proposed 560m Freedom Bridge is being funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency – JICA, at a cost of more than ninety million dollars.

Launched by President Salva Kiir in June 2015, the bridge will have a 3.6-kilometer access road, two lanes for vehicular traffic and a pedestrian sidewalk on one side.

Robert Ohia caught up with the Resident Engineer Norio Umeda and asked him first to explain how the preparations is going on.
