Speaking to Radio Miraya before his departure Mr. Shearer said that the peace process is our only chance:
"We have a peace process at the moment, which is the only chance in town for peace. This is plan A and there is not plan B, and so we are all going get behind it and push it"
He noted some very positive progress being made in terms of people being in Juba and moving around.
"There has been a lot of different meetings across the country but there is a long way to go in terms of getting the specifics and realities and we are still working on those. We need to see some tangible progress on the ground."
Mr. Shearer stresses that we have to continue working together towards sustainable peace.
"The important thing is keeping momentum going. If we do not have keep momentum going," he said " if we don’t have results from the various committees that have been formed then you get frustration, frustration can easily turn into anger, we hope not, but possibly the violence, so we have to keep the progress moving, we have got to keep momentum going."
