Large crowds turned up for the South Sudan Great Run on Saturday – reinforcing the important power of sports as a unifying factor.
The 10km marathon was flagged off by President Salva Kiir at the John Graang Mausoleum and drew the participation of athletes from South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Runners from Ethiopia claimed top prize in the men’s and women’s categories.
One of the organisers, Ambassador John Andruga Duku, South Sudan’s Ambassador to China said the large crowds that turned up for the event are proof that sports is a powerful tool for building bridges and bringing people together.
