Counting the Costs of Violence against Women and Girls

A new report has brought to light the enormous economic and social costs of violence against women and girls in South Sudan.
The report suggests that more than eight million days of productivity have been lost as a result of violence in the past year.

It further indicates that more than 80% of women and girls attending educational institutions reported experiencing at least 1 incident of violence in the past year.

The study funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) was launched yesterday in Juba.

The overall finding was that there is a significant heavy productivity loss experienced by women as they undergo violence.

Becks Buckingham, Head of the DFID office in South Sudan and Nata Duvvury, a lead investigator in the study spoke to Sebit William and Irene Lasu about the findings.
