Episode 996, Sep 09, 2019, 08:48 AM
#UK ambassador to #SouthSudan Chris Trott has called for a high level compromise between the two principal leaders of the warrying parties in #SouthSudan. Speaking ahead of today’s planned meeting between president Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar, Ambassador Trott says the two leaders have no choice but to deliver the peace agreement because they signed to it. He further urged the parties to commit to more engagements beyond today’s planned meeting.
Ambassador Trott however expressed happiness that since the signing of the revitalized peace agreement, there has been some improvements in certain areas but stressed for more to be done.
“We have arrived at the place where we have to recognize real progress is being made. Over the last year we have seen a reduction in fighting, we are seeing different political parties working together. But one thing I would like to see more of is more involvement by the media and civil society in disseminating this agreement, giving them the space to be able to talk about it”.
