Special Envoy: IGAD will not dictate on formation of R-TGONU by Nov 12

The IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, H.E. Amb. Dr. Ismail Wais says the regional body of mediators will not dictate to the parties of South Sudan on the formation of the Revitalized-Transitional Government of National Unity by November 12th. 

 

Ismail Wais says the parties are still in dialogue and reiterates that IGAD will facilitate any process leading to a solution on the outstanding issues. 

 

In exclusive interview with Radio Miraya, Ambassador Wais emphasized that the mediators would offer a coordinated push to move the process further.

 

Ambassador Ismail Wais said the IGAD office has not received any official communication from the SPLM-IO declining to take part in the next government.

The Special Envoy made the comments to Radio Miraya shortly after a meeting of Special Envoys in Djibouti. The regional Envoys from IGAD, Kenya and Sudan alongside international Envoys from the United Nations, TROIKA nations, and other stakeholders, deliberated at length on critical outstanding tasks namely: transitional security arrangements, number and boundaries of states, allocation of ministerial portfolios and the issue of the South Sudanese non-signatories to agreement. 

 

Mindful of the delay in the implementation of the R-ARCSS, the Envoys resolved to better coordinate efforts in engaging stakeholders and mobilizing the necessary support for the peace process.
