Machar and President Kiir’s meeting to focus on security arrangements and land surrounding the 10 states.

SPLM-IO says its leader Riek Machar is in Juba to discuss issues of land surrounding the government’s decision to revert to 10 states.  

SPLM-IO Director for Information and Public Relations Puok Both Baluang says the SPLM-IO would like to ensure that all land disputes arising from the formation of the 32 states are fully resolved before the formation of the Revitalized Unity government.

Another issue of discussion is security arrangements during the transitional period.  SPLM-IO Director for Information Puok Both says the two principals will discuss a proposal for the deployment of UNMISS forces to strategic locations in the interim, until training of unified forces has been completed.  

Dr Machar arrived in Juba yesterday accompanied by the Sudanese deputy chairperson of the sovereign council Mohammed Hemeti Daglo.
