The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report released on Thursday by the Government of #South Sudan, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP) says at least 20,000 people from February through April will be suffering from the most extreme levels of hunger in Akobo, Duk and Ayod counties that were hit by heavy rains last year, and need urgent and sustained humanitarian support.
Nicholas Kerandi, Food Security Analyst in charge of IPC spoke to the Miraya Breakfast Show and disclosed that the number of people suffering from hunger is expected to increase.
On the issue of desert locust, Felix Morris, Plant Protection Specialist in charge of Desert Locust told the breakfast show that South Sudan will be at risk of locusts’ invasion as the rainy season draws closer. However, measures need to be put in place early to better prepare and avoid major risk of food insecurity as a result of the desert locust.
