The official release of fifteen children associated with armed groups gets underway in Juba

The official release of fifteen children associated with armed groups is expected at the Giada military barracks in Juba. 

The children were reportedly part of the forces of former army chief staff Paul Malong and were arrested by government forces in Wau and transported to Juba in 2019. 

The UN Mission, UNICEF and other partners are facilitating their release and demobilization. Chief of the UNMISS Child Protection Unit, Alfred Orono Orono says the children were being kept in Giada for their safety.
