New report says part of South Sudan is in 'likely famine'

A new food security report indicates that communities in parts of Jonglei, Warrap and Northern Barh el-Ghazal states are facing “likely famine” or “catastrophic” conditions.
The latest Integrated Food Security Phase analysis, due to be released in the coming days, says the situation is expected to get worse over the next few months, with the onset of the dry season.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock told the UN Security Council via Video Teleconference yesterday that the food insecurity has been driven by multiple factors, including displacement from conflict, severe flooding, and a worsening economic situation due to COVID-19.
