Mysterious illness that claimed 89 lives in Fangak confirmed to be malaria.

The Ministry of Health and its partners have confirmed that an unknown disease that killed 89 people in Fangak County in Jonglei State was malaria.
The victims presented symptoms which included vomiting, diarrhea, and high fever before their death.
The confirmation was issued by the national and state ministries of health and the World Health Organization.
Jonglei State minister for health Atong Kuol Manyang applauded the partnership while announcing the outcome.
Fangak county has had no health facilities after the main hospital was razed down to ashes during the conflict of 2013. The only international health provider on the ground pulled out in 2020 due to lack of funding.
