JJ Chalmers "I've tried not to waste any of the time that I've been given on this little planet".

Season 4, Episode 4,   Jul 11, 2022, 12:02 AM

My guest on this episode is JJ Chalmers. JJ is a TV and Radio presenter who this year has ticked off the BBC’s Winter Olympics coverage and most recently coverage of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations, but this is where his story goes a little further than broadcasting. JJ has been on an incredibly inspiring journey to get to these privileged, and well deserved positions.

As a former Royal Marines commando, JJ unfortunately got badly wounded in Afghanistan, leaving him with multiple injuries. Through amazing strength and determination, he went through rehab and competed at the Invictus Games where he won nothing less than a Gold medal, as well as some casual Bronze medals too!

To put it in JJ's words, he’s “had a nightmare and is now living the dream”. I hope you enjoy this podcast, because it left me feeling incredibly inspired.

We talk about the shocking incident which led to his injuries, what disability means and how we can make that societal change - in his words "equity is what's needed, a reasonable adjustment".

Aimee will be probing for answers from the full spectrum of routines; the early birds who have finely tuned Monday mornings, to the late risers who struggle to get up before 11am. How do elite athletes find the motivation to kick start their week come rain or shine? How do celebrities deliver no matter what the time of day? What knowledge can they pass on?

Each episode drops on a Monday morning as a bitesize piece of content and weekly dose of motivation - right when you need it. Aimee will meet each of her guests for a walk and a chat and over the course of the mile she will find out how they cope on a Monday morning - their idiosyncrasies, breakfast routines, alarm noises - and how, when they need to, find the motivation to kick-on through the week. Sharing some of Britain's greatest athletes’ secrets on self-motivation, candid thoughts on what they struggle with and a sideways look at some of their more unusual morning habits.
