Akual de Mabior - No Simple Way Home

Akuol De Mabior says she wanted to open a discussion on what it means to call South Sudan home in her new 2022 Documentary Film, “No Simple Way Home”. In the autobiographical documentary De Mabior, who is based in Nairobi Kenya, goes back to South Sudan, and follows her mother Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior and sister Nyankuir Garang where they now live and have found their roles to tell a personal yet political story.
No Simple Way Home scooped the Best South African/African Documentary award, as well as the Adiaha Award at the 2022 Encounters South African International Documentary Festival Awards and has been screened at this year’s Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale). De Mabior spoke to Radio Miraya about her film which was screened for the first time in Juba on Marty’s day and the Anniversary of the death of her father and South Sudans’ liberation hero, Dr John Garang De Mabior.
