ANNIE WALLACE

Season 1, Episode 7,   Dec 20, 2022, 05:00 AM

In the Bunker today, BAFTA-nominated actor Annie Wallace. Best known for playing Sally St. Claire on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks – headmistress of Hollyoaks High School, no less – she was the first ever transgender person cast to play a regular transgender character in a leading UK soap opera, and as such is the most prolific trans actress in UK television history. Since starting at Hollyoaks in 2015, she has been regularly listed in the prestigious Rainbow List, Pride Power List, Diva Power List, and the USA OUT100, as one of the country’s most influential LGBT people. Not too shabby at all – but we at Cutaway have known her for many years, both through working with her in theatre productions before she got all famous, and – the reason we’re here, through Manchester’s thriving Doctor Who fandom. Not only is she a huge fan but she’s mates with Russell T Davies (hear how he, thankfully, ignored her advice back in 2000!) and has worked with Katy Manning and director Graeme Harper.

Annie’s five choices to take with her into The Bunker are:

1. The Daemons (Doctor Who, TV story, first broadcast 1971)

2. The Pyramids of Mars (Doctor Who, TV story, first broadcast 1975)

3. The Genesis of the Daleks (Doctor Who, TV story, first broadcast 1975)

4. The Girl in the Fireplace (Doctor Who, TV story, first broadcast 2006)

5. Blink (Doctor Who, TV story, first broadcast 2007)
