UNMISS Preliminary investigations reveal record number of women and child abductions in Jonglei and Greater Pibor Administartive Area

Preliminary investigations by the UN Mission in South Sudan into recent violence and kidnappings in Greater Pibor and Jonglei States suggest that the number of women and children abducted in the last quarter of 2022 is the highest on record. The investigation by the UNMISS Human Rights Division also reveals that the kidnappings point towards a money-making venture in the form of human trafficking and slavery. The Director of the UNMISS Human Rights Division, Musa Gassama told Radio Miraya this morning that the investigation also suggests the involvement of the parties to the conflict. Gassama outlined four main highlights of their ongoing investigation.
