Government partners with IGAD and UNDP to establish National Early Warning System

The #SouthSudan Ministry of Environment and Forestry in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), have launched a two-year project to establish a National Climate Early Warning System.
The project will establish a national hydro-meteorological station providing weather and climate database across the country; as well as strengthen the management of early warning systems through capacity building.
The ten-million-dollar project is funded by the Global Environment Facility through the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) will support the technical component through training and capacity building of staff, while UNDP will be implementing partners.
Undersecretary in the Ministry of Environment, Joseph Bartel, ICPAC Director, Guleid Artan and UNDP Project Manager, Kuach Pech explained the importance of this project to South Sudan.
