Nationwide: Shrinking Civic Space Ahead of the December 2024, Elections in South Sudan

As South Sudan gears towards Elections in December 2024, the electoral process includes different phases starting from design and drafting of legislation, the recruitment and training of electoral staff, electoral planning, voter registration, the registration of political parties, the nomination of parties and candidates, the electoral campaign, polling, counting, the tabulation of results, the declaration of results, the resolution of electoral disputes, reporting, auditing, and archiving.
To effectively achieve the required results in the different phases of elections, there needs to be a conducive environment that provides free and fair civic engagement that includes the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly, and participation as provided for in the country’s legislation.
In response to the current situation in South Sudan, the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) has launched a two-month campaign titled "Shrinking Civic Space Ahead of the December 22nd, 2024, Elections in South Sudan,"
Guests: Mr. Ter Manyang Gatwech – is the Executive Director of the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) and Chairperson of the Civil Society Coalition on Defense of Civic Space (CSCDCS).
Mr. Manna Elijah Hon – is a Youth Program Officer at the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) and is a fellow at the Elisabeth Selbert Initiative (ESI) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
