ROUNDTABLE: South Sudan's extension of the transitional period

Episode 2824,   Sep 24, 12:11 PM

South Sudan's elections that were scheduled for December 2024 have been postponed. The transitional government has given itself two more years to implement the roadmap to elections that have been pushed to December 2026. The government cites inadequate implementation of key activities for the elections to be held. The permanent constitution drafting process has not started. The unification of armed forces has not been completed, and the voter registration processes are still outstanding. The type of elections that the country has to conduct has not yet been determined. The government says it will focus on raising funds to implement the key outstanding tasks. In this edition of the Roundtable, Radio Miraya's Sani Martin brings in key players in the transitional government to face the tough questions on what's next for South Sudan's path to democratic dispensation. In conversation on the Roundtable:

  • Dr Martin Elia Lomuro, Cabinet Affairs Minister and Secretary General of the High Level Implementation Committee
